Ingredients
Scale
- 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Blue and gold food coloring
- White icing for decorative accents
- Black edible marker (for details)
Instructions
- Prepare the cookie dough: In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. In a separate large bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar until creamy. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing well. Gradually add the dry ingredients until combined. Divide the dough into two halves.
- Add color: Tint one half of the dough with blue food coloring and the other with gold. Wrap each in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
- Roll out and cut shapes: Roll out the blue dough on a floured surface to about ¼ inch thickness. Use a trident-shaped cookie cutter or a sharp knife to create the shape. Repeat with the gold dough for accents.
- Bake the cookies: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes until lightly golden. Let cool completely.
- Decorate: Use white icing to add details like handles and waves, and a black edible marker for fine lines. You can also add metallic edible paint to mimic the shiny trident appearance for an authentic look.
Notes
- Refrigerate dough for at least 1 hour for easier handling and better shape retention.
- Use high-quality food coloring for vibrant hues.
- Decorate with edible markers or shimmering edible paint for professional-looking details.
- Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
