Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups of water
- 1 cup of diced ham (leftover ham works great)
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper
- Pinch of garlic powder (optional)
- Bay leaf (optional, for added depth of flavor)
Instructions
- In a medium-sized pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil.
- Once the water is boiling, add 1 cup of diced ham, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper, and a pinch of garlic powder (if using). Optionally, include a bay leaf.
- Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for about 20-30 minutes.
- After simmering, strain the liquid through a fine-mesh sieve to remove solids. Serve hot in a mug or bowl, garnished with a piece of ham if desired.
Notes
- Use high-quality ham for the best flavor.
- Adjust salt and pepper to your liking.
- Experiment with additional seasonings like onion powder or smoked paprika.
- For a vegetarian version, use vegetable broth and smoky seasoning.
