Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans or use parchment paper.
- Mix flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.
- Combine buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla in a separate bowl. Mix until smooth.
- Add wet ingredients to dry and stir. Gradually add hot water and mix until batter is smooth and slightly thin.
- Divide batter evenly into prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool in pans for 10 minutes; then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
- In a bowl, beat softened butter until creamy. Mix in powdered sugar and cocoa powder gradually. Add milk and vanilla until frosting reaches spreadable consistency.
- Place one cake layer on serving plate; spread frosting over top. Top with second layer, apply crumb coat, chill for 15-20 minutes, then frost smoothly. Decorate with chocolate chips or edible glitter.
