- 3 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup hot water
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, beat the sugars and oil until well combined. Add eggs one at a time, then vanilla.
- Alternately add dry ingredients and buttermilk to wet mixture, starting and ending with dry.
- Gradually add hot water, mixing until smooth.
- Pour batter into prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool completely, then frost with your favorite dark chocolate frosting, decorating with silver accents if desired.

- Use high-quality dark cocoa for a more intense flavor.
- For a spooky effect, add edible silver or black glitter.
