Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup unsalted butter
 - 2 cups granulated sugar
 - 4 large eggs
 - 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
 - 1 cup all-purpose flour
 - 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
 - 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
 - 1/4 teaspoon salt
 - Black food coloring (optional)
 - Bat-shaped cookie cutter or stencil for decoration
 - Chocolate chips or dark chocolate chunks

Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a square baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
 - Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Remove from heat and stir in the sugar until well combined.
 - Whisk in the eggs one at a time, then add vanilla extract and a few drops of black food coloring for a Gotham-inspired look if desired.
 - Sift together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl.
 - Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just incorporated. Mix in chocolate chips or chunks for extra richness.
 - Pour batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
 - Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cool completely.
 - Decorate with bat-shaped cutouts using melted chocolate or icing. Add black icing outlines for a dramatic effect.

Notes
- Use gelatinous black food coloring for a darker appearance if preferred.
 - Cooling fully before decorating helps maintain sharp outlines for bat shapes.
 - For extra decadence, top with additional chocolate chunks before baking.
