Ingredients
Scale
- 2 boxes of vanilla or lemon cake mix (or homemade cake batter)
- Food coloring: yellow, orange, black, and white
- Buttercream frosting (preferably homemade for rich flavor)
- Edible food markers or black gel icing for details
- Candy eyes or homemade eyes made from icing
- Optional: edible glitter or sprinkles for decoration
Instructions
- Bake the Cake: Prepare your cake batter as instructed. Divide the batter into two bowls, tint yellow for the body and orange for the beak and feet, using suitable food coloring. Pour into a duck-shaped cake pan or assemble using round cakes and shape accordingly. Bake and allow to cool completely.
- Shape and Assemble: If using round cakes, carve and stack to form a duck shape, creating a rounded body and head.
- Frosting & Decoration: Apply a thick layer of yellow buttercream frosting over the entire cake. Use orange frosting for the beak and feet, attaching them with frosting or toothpicks.
- Add Details: Use edible food markers or candy eyes to give your duck a cute face. Use black gel icing for pupils and other accents for added expression.
Notes
- Ensure the cake is completely cooled before frosting to prevent melting.
- For best results, use a cake leveler for even layers.
- Decorate the cake on the day of the celebration for the freshest appearance.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature or refrigerated if decorated in advance.
