Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 tsp cream of tartar
- 1/2 tsp blue gel food coloring (or 10 drops liquid)
- Pegboard或wooden skewers or popsicle sticks
Instructions
- Wash and dry skewers; dip ends in water and roll in granulated sugar. Let dry 1 hour.
- In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, water, and cream of tartar. Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves, then stop stirring.
- Bring to a boil; insert candy thermometer. Cook until mixture reaches 300°F (hard-crack stage).
- Remove from heat; stir in food coloring until uniform blue color forms.
- Pour mixture into a heatproof jar or mold. Let cool slightly, then suspend prepared skewers inside (centered, not touching sides).
- Cover with paper towel; let crystals grow 3–7 days at room temperature.
- Once crystals are large enough, remove, dry, and store in an airtight container.
Notes
- For best results, avoid stirring once boiling begins — it can cause premature crystallization.
- Use gloves when handling hot syrup; hard-crack stage is extremely hot.
- Blue gel coloring yields deeper hue without thinning syrup.
- Display in a mini lab jar for maximum Breaking Bad effect.
