A visually stunning, edible tribute to Breaking Bad’s iconic blue crystal meth — made completely safe with just sugar, water, and food coloring. Perfect for fan parties or geeky gifts.

  • Total Time: 3 days 45 minutes
  • Yield: 6–8 servings

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1/2 tsp blue gel food coloring (or 10 drops liquid)
  • Pegboard或wooden skewers or popsicle sticks

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry skewers; dip ends in water and roll in granulated sugar. Let dry 1 hour.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, water, and cream of tartar. Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves, then stop stirring.
  3. Bring to a boil; insert candy thermometer. Cook until mixture reaches 300°F (hard-crack stage).
  4. Remove from heat; stir in food coloring until uniform blue color forms.
  5. Pour mixture into a heatproof jar or mold. Let cool slightly, then suspend prepared skewers inside (centered, not touching sides).
  6. Cover with paper towel; let crystals grow 3–7 days at room temperature.
  7. Once crystals are large enough, remove, dry, and store in an airtight container.

Notes

  • For best results, avoid stirring once boiling begins — it can cause premature crystallization.
  • Use gloves when handling hot syrup; hard-crack stage is extremely hot.
  • Blue gel coloring yields deeper hue without thinning syrup.
  • Display in a mini lab jar for maximum Breaking Bad effect.
