Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pre-made pie crust or homemade pastry crust
- 6 large eggs
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup grated Gruyère cheese
- ½ cup cooked bacon bits or diced ham
- 1 cup chopped spinach or kale
- ¼ teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional herbs: chives, parsley, or thyme
Instructions
- Gather all your ingredients and preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). If using a homemade crust, blind-bake it for about 10 minutes to prevent sogginess.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, nutmeg, salt, and pepper until well combined. This mixture will form the rich filling of your Captain Holt quiche.
- Sauté the spinach or kale until wilted, and cook the bacon or ham until crispy. Spread the greens and cooked meats evenly over the prepared crust.
- Pour the egg custard mixture over the filling in the pie crust. Sprinkle the grated Gruyère cheese on top for that perfect cheesy crust.
- Place the assembled quiche in the oven and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the custard is set and the top is golden brown. Allow it to cool for a few minutes before slicing.
Notes
- You can substitute Swiss cheese or other cheeses for Gruyère based on preference.
- For a vegetarian version, omit the bacon and add additional vegetables.
- Blind-baking the crust helps keep the bottom crisp and prevents sogginess.
