Instructions
- In a food processor, combine the flour and powdered sugar. Add the cold diced butter and pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add the egg yolk and 2 tablespoons of ice water. Pulse until the dough comes together. If needed, add an extra tablespoon of water.
- Form the dough into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled dough to fit a 9-inch tart pan. Carefully transfer to the pan and trim the edges.
- Poke the base with a fork (dock the dough) and bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Let it cool completely.
- Color the strawberries and kiwi with red and blue gel food coloring for a vibrant effect.
- Slice the fruits into thin, uniform pieces for neat decoration.
- Spread the vanilla pastry cream evenly across the cooled tart shell.
- Arrange the sliced fruits in concentric circles, mimicking Captain America’s shield—red on one side, white in the middle, and blue on the other.
- Optional: Use edible gold or silver dust to add a metallic shimmer to enhance the patriotic theme.
