Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup glucose syrup
- 1/4 cup water
- Food coloring (assorted for vibrant layers)
- Flavor extracts (berry, lemon, orange, etc.)
- Vegetable shortening (for non-stick)
- Small edible food beads or sprinkles (optional for decoration)
- Citric acid (for tangy flavor, optional)
Instructions
- Prepare your workspace by cleaning surfaces and gathering all ingredients and tools such as a saucepan, candy thermometer, silicone molds, and spatula.
- Combine sugar, glucose syrup, and water in a saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly. Use a candy thermometer to reach 300°F (149°C), the hard crack stage.
- Divide the hot candy mixture into small portions, adding different food colorings and flavor extracts to each. Pour into silicone molds or onto a silicone surface to cool and set, creating layered effects.
- Once cooled and hardened, carefully remove the candies. Use a small amount of vegetable shortening to assemble multi-layered pieces if needed, mimicking the iconic layered look.
- Optional: Decorate with tiny food beads or sprinkles for extra authenticity and color vibrancy.
Notes
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature to maintain freshness.
- Keep candies away from direct sunlight to prevent melting.
- Work quickly when pouring hot candy to ensure proper shaping and layering.
- Experiment with flavors and colors for personalized creations.
