Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Gray food coloring (for the signature gray hue)
- Edible graphite or charcoal powder (optional, for an authentic graphite tip effect)
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar until creamy. Add the egg and vanilla extract, blending well.
- Gradually incorporate the flour, baking powder, and salt until a smooth dough forms. Mix in gray food coloring until evenly colored. For a realistic graphite look, add a small amount of edible graphite or charcoal powder.
- Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Once chilled, roll out the dough onto a lightly floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness.
- Use cookie cutters or a sharp knife to cut into small rectangles or ovals mimicking graphite tips.
- Place the cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 10-12 minutes. Cool completely before decorating.
- Decorate the tips with edible graphite or black icing to enhance authenticity.
Notes
- For a more authentic look, incorporate edible graphite or charcoal powder during dough preparation.
- If desired, add cocoa powder or crushed cookies to enhance flavor and texture.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week or freeze for longer storage.
