- 2 cups of whole milk (or dairy-free alternative)
- 1 cup of heavy cream
- ½ cup of good quality dark chocolate, chopped
- 2 tablespoons of sugar or honey
- 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon of ground nutmeg
- ½ teaspoon of ground cardamom
- ¼ teaspoon of cayenne pepper (optional for a spicy kick)
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- Whipped cream and cinnamon sticks for garnish
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine the milk and heavy cream. Warm over medium heat until it just begins to simmer.
- Add the chopped dark chocolate to the warm milk mixture and stir constantly until completely melted and smooth.
- Stir in sugar or honey, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, and cayenne pepper (if using). Mix well to incorporate all spices.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Pour the hot chocolate into mugs and top with whipped cream and a cinnamon stick for garnish.
- Serve immediately and enjoy the comforting warmth of your homemade spiced hot chocolate.
