Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder.
- Cream butter and sugars: In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs and vanilla: Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.
- Add food coloring: Gradually mix in red food coloring until the dough reaches a vibrant hue.
- Combine dry and wet ingredients: Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with buttermilk, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
- Fold in chocolate: For an extra superhero touch, fold in chocolate chips if desired.
- Shape the cookies: Scoop dough using a tablespoon or cookie scoop, and place onto the prepared baking sheet. Flatten slightly.
- Bake: Bake for 10-12 minutes or until edges are set and cookies appear slightly cracked.
- Cool: Transfer to a cooling rack and allow to cool completely before serving.
