  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 2 cups

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups of water
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 whole cloves
  • 1 star anise pod
  • 1 teaspoon of dried ginger or fresh grated ginger
  • 1 teaspoon of honey or to taste (optional)
  • 1 black tea bag (preferably Assam or Darjeeling)
  • Fresh lemon slices (for garnish, optional)
  • Optional: a pinch of ground cardamom or turmeric for added depth

Instructions

  1. In a small pot, bring the water to a gentle boil.
  2. Add the cinnamon stick, cloves, star anise, and ginger. Reduce heat and simmer for 5-7 minutes to release flavors.
  3. Remove from heat and strain the infused water into a teapot or cup, discarding the whole spices.
  4. Place the black tea bag into the hot spiced water and steep for 3-5 minutes based on your preferred strength.
  5. Add honey or your favorite sweetener to balance the spice and enhance sweetness.
  6. Stir well and garnish with lemon slices for a refreshing touch.

Notes

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 24 hours.
  • Reheat gently on stovetop or microwave before serving.
  • For a more intense spice flavor, make a larger batch and reheat as needed, always best enjoyed fresh for optimal flavor.
