Scale
- 1 pound fresh pizza dough (homemade or store-bought)
- 1 cup fresh tomato sauce (preferably made with San Marzano tomatoes)
- 8 oz fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced
- 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- Fresh basil leaves
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- Optional: a sprinkle of grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- If using store-bought dough, allow it to reach room temperature. If making homemade dough, follow your preferred recipe or check out our detailed easy pizza dough recipe.
- Preheat your oven to 500°F (260°C) or the highest setting available. For an authentic experience, consider using the Presto Pizzazz Plus Rotating Pizza Oven.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface until it’s thin and even.
- Transfer the rolled dough onto a baking sheet or pizza stone.
- Spread the fresh tomato sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
- Place slices of fresh mozzarella on top of the sauce.
- Drizzle with extra virgin olive oil and season with a pinch of salt and pepper.
- Add fresh basil leaves before baking; you can also add some after baking for added aroma.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the crust is golden and cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.
- Remove from oven and let it rest for a couple of minutes before slicing.
Notes
- Use high-quality San Marzano tomatoes for the best flavor.
- For a crispier crust, preheat your pizza stone or baking sheet in the oven before placing the dough on it.
- You can add a drizzle of balsamic glaze or a handful of arugula after baking for extra flavor.
