Ingredients
Scale
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- For filling: 1/3 cup brown sugar, 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- For icing: 1 cup powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons milk, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and a teaspoon of sugar. Let sit until frothy (5-10 minutes).
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, remaining sugar, and salt.
- Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg to the dry ingredients. Mix until a soft dough forms.
- Knead on a floured surface until smooth, about 5 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled (1-2 hours).
- Roll out dough into a rectangle, spread with melted butter, and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar mixture.
- Roll tightly, then cut into 1-inch slices and place in a greased baking pan.
- Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla for icing.
- Drizzle icing over warm cinnamon rolls before serving.
Notes
- Ensure milk is warm but not hot to activate yeast properly.
- You can refrigerate the unbaked rolls overnight and bake fresh in the morning.
