Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • For filling: 1/3 cup brown sugar, 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • For icing: 1 cup powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons milk, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and a teaspoon of sugar. Let sit until frothy (5-10 minutes).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, remaining sugar, and salt.
  3. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg to the dry ingredients. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead on a floured surface until smooth, about 5 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled (1-2 hours).
  5. Roll out dough into a rectangle, spread with melted butter, and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar mixture.
  6. Roll tightly, then cut into 1-inch slices and place in a greased baking pan.
  7. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla for icing.
  9. Drizzle icing over warm cinnamon rolls before serving.
