Ingredients
Scale
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup warm water (105-115°F)
- 1/4 cup olive oil, plus more for brushing
- 2 tablespoons garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon dried parsley
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, yeast, sugar, salt, and garlic powder. Add warm water and olive oil. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Punch down the dough and divide into 12-16 equal pieces. Shape into ropes and place on a baking sheet. Brush with olive oil, then sprinkle with parsley and Parmesan (if using). Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
Notes
- Ensure the water is at the right temperature (105-115°F) to activate the yeast.
- Don’t over-knead; aim for a smooth, elastic texture.
- Let the dough rise in a draft-free place.
- Brush generously with olive oil before baking for crispiness.
- Monitor closely while baking to prevent burning.
