Ingredients
Scale
- 1 (16 oz) loaf Italian bread or French baguette, sliced horizontally
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
- 1 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Mix softened butter, minced garlic, oregano, red pepper flakes, and salt in a small bowl.
- Spread garlic butter generously on both halves of the sliced bread.
- Sprinkle shredded mozzarella evenly over the top.
- Place on a baking sheet and bake for 12–15 minutes, until cheese is bubbly and crust is golden-brown.
- Optional: broil 1–2 minutes for extra char.
- Garnish with parsley and Parmesan before serving.
Notes
- For that authentic prison-style crust, toast the bread *before* adding butter for extra crispiness.
- Fake it like Henry Hill: wrap in foil and stash in your coat—just don’t get caught.
- Makes a great handheld appetizer—perfect for movie nights or gangsta picnics.
