- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef or minced mutton
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 carrots, diced
- 1 cup peas (frozen or fresh)
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup beef or vegetable broth
- 4 large potatoes, peeled and chopped
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1/4 cup milk
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
- Fresh thyme or rosemary (optional, for added aroma)
Instructions
- Cook potatoes in boiling salted water until tender (15-20 minutes), then mash with butter, milk, salt, and set aside.
- In a skillet, cook onion until translucent (3-4 min), add garlic and cook 1 min. Add ground meat, cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Mix in carrots and tomato paste, cook for 5 mins. Add Worcestershire sauce and broth, simmer until thickened (10-15 mins). Stir in peas, season with salt and pepper.
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Transfer meat mixture to a baking dish; spread mashed potatoes evenly on top. Decorate with herbs if desired.
- Bake for 25-30 mins until top is golden and bubbling. Serve warm for a magical dinner experience.
