Ingredients
Scale
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Chocolate frosting
- Orange and black food coloring
- Edible gold dust (optional)
- Chocolate chips or candy eyes for embellishments
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. In a separate large bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined. Gradually add the dry ingredients until a cohesive dough forms. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill for at least 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Shape the dough into small, rounded hat shapes with a slightly pointed tip, resembling the Hogwarts sorting hat. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden around the edges. Allow cookies to cool completely on a wire rack.
- Use chocolate frosting to outline the hat’s brim and add details. Mix food coloring with frosting to create different house shades if desired. Dust edible gold on the hats and add candy eyes or chocolate chips to resemble the eyes of the sorting hat. Use piping techniques for texture if desired.
Notes
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
- For longer storage, refrigerate in a sealed container.
