Ingredients
Scale
- 1 package of puff pastry sheets
- 1 cup of spinach or kale, finely chopped
- 1 cup of cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup grated mozzarella cheese
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- Black sesame seeds (for eyes)
- Red food coloring (optional, for fiery effect)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Olive oil or melted butter (for brushing)
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, grated mozzarella, and finely chopped spinach or kale. Season with salt and pepper to enhance flavor. Add red food coloring for a fiery twist if desired.
- Roll out the puff pastry sheets on a floured surface. Cut into 3-inch by 1-inch strips.
- Spoon the filling onto each strip, then fold and seal the edges to create snake shapes. Twist or curl the ends to form serpent heads, making small slits for fangs or features.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Place shaped bites on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush with beaten egg and butter for a golden finish.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and puffed.
- After cooling slightly, place two black sesame seeds on each serpent’s head as eyes. Optional: add red food coloring or ketchup around the eyes for a menacing look.
Notes
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 hours. Refrigerate for up to 1 day. Reheat at 350°F (175°C) for 5-7 minutes before serving.
- For a more realistic look, use darker sesame seeds and add dark food coloring along the pastry scales.
