Ingredients
Scale
- 2 1/4 cups (280g) all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 tablespoon ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup (150g) packed dark brown sugar
- 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup (120ml) molasses
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Royal icing and colorful sprinkles for decoration
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and salt. Set aside.
- In a separate bowl, beat the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg, molasses, and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients, mixing until a firm dough forms. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4-inch thickness.
- Use cookie cutters shaped like bows, stars, or Hawkeye’s signature bow and arrow to cut out festive cookies.
- Place the cutouts on the prepared baking sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes until crisp. Let cookies cool completely on wire racks before decorating.
Notes
- Use royal icing for detailed decorating to mimic superhero symbols or NYC landmarks.
- Store baked cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
- Decorate with sprinkles and edible markers for a superhero-themed effect.
