Ingredients
Scale
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Food coloring (red, blue, black)
- Edible markers or icing for decorating
- Optional: black sesame seeds or mini chocolate chips for added details
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing well.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Roll out the chilled dough to about ¼-inch thickness. Use a large circle or handprint cookie cutter to shape the cookies.
- Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes until edges are lightly golden. Cool completely.
- Tint icings with food coloring in red, blue, and black. Decorate the cookies by piping or spreading the icing to mimic superhero themes.
- Add details like handprint outlines or superhero logos using edible markers or icing pens. Optional: add edible decorations for extra flair.
Notes
- Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
- Use parchment paper to prevent sticking and avoid stacking directly on top of decorations.
- Decorated cookies can be frozen for up to 2 weeks for longer storage.
