Ingredients
Scale
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- Black food coloring
- White royal icing or fondant for decoration
- Optional: edible black and white food-safe markers
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar until creamy. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing well.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
- Divide the dough into two equal portions. To one portion, add a few drops of black food coloring and knead until evenly tinted.
- Roll out both dough portions to about ¼-inch thickness on a lightly floured surface.
- Using a round cookie cutter, cut out circles from both doughs. Place all cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- For the authentic cow print effect, gently press black dough circles onto the white cookies or vice versa, creating a speckled pattern.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
- Allow cookies to cool completely on a wire rack.
- If desired, decorate cookies with edible black and white markers or royal icing for added detail.
Notes
- Wrap dough tightly and refrigerate for 30 minutes before rolling for easier handling.
- Use high-quality food coloring for vibrant cow print patterns.
- Decorate with royal icing or fondant for a polished look, or leave plain for casual serving.
