  • Total Time: 1 hour 50 minutes
  • Yield: 1 pie 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 6 to 8 apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled and sliced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 2 tablespoons milk (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the pie crust by mixing flour and salt, cutting in butter until coarse crumbs form. Gradually add water to form a dough, wrap, and refrigerate for one hour.
  2. Make the apple filling by tossing sliced apples with lemon juice, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cornstarch until well-coated.
  3. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Roll out one dough disk into a pie dish, fill with the apple mixture, and top with a lattice crust. Brush with egg wash.
  4. Bake for 15 minutes, reduce temperature to 350°F (175°C), and continue baking for 35 to 45 minutes until the crust is golden brown.

Notes

  • Store leftover pie at room temperature for up to two days or refrigerate for a week; freeze for up to three months.
  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for an indulgent treat.
  • Granny Smith and Honeycrisp apples are best for balance in flavor and texture.
