Ingredients
Scale
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup cream cheese, softened
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- Food coloring (blue, purple, black, and neon shades)
- Edible glitter or shimmer dust for a starry effect
- Pearl sprinkles or cosmic-shaped candies
- Galaxy-themed edible toppers (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 8-inch round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with milk, until just combined.
- Divide the batter evenly among the prepared pans and bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool completely before assembling.
- In a chilled bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Add edible glitter for a starry sky effect.
- In another bowl, beat the cream cheese with powdered sugar until smooth. Divide the frosting into portions and tint each with different neon food colors to create the outer galaxy effect.
- Place the first cake layer on your serving platter. Spread a layer of colored cream cheese frosting or whipped cream.
- Add the second cake layer and repeat the process, alternating colors for each layer to mimic the layers of a galaxy.
- Place the third cake layer on top and apply a thin crumb coat to seal the cake.
- Decorate with the remaining frosting, edible glitter, and cosmic candies to complete the celestial look.
Notes
- Ensure cakes are completely cooled before frosting to prevent melting or shifting layers.
- Use a toothpick or cake tester to check for doneness: it should come out clean.
- For added visual effect, incorporate metallic or shimmer dust into the frosting.
- For best results, prepare the cake a day ahead to allow flavors to meld and stabilize the layers.
