Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb (450g) chicken breast or beef strips
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground paprika
- 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 large flatbreads or pita wraps
- 1 cup shredded lettuce
- 1/2 cup sliced cucumbers
- 1/2 cup sliced tomatoes
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
- Homemade or store-bought tahini sauce or garlic yogurt sauce
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine olive oil, minced garlic, cumin, paprika, turmeric, coriander, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well to create the marinade.
- Add the chicken or beef strips to the marinade, ensuring all pieces are well-coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, ideally up to 2 hours for maximum flavor.
- Heat a large skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Add the marinated meat and cook until browned and cooked through, about 7-10 minutes.
- Warm the flatbreads slightly in a pan or microwave for easier rolling.
- Spread a generous layer of tahini or garlic sauce on each flatbread.
- Lay the cooked shawarma meat in the center, then top with shredded lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, and chopped parsley.
- Fold the sides of the flatbread over the filling and roll tightly to enclose all ingredients.
- Optionally, toast the wraps in a skillet for a crispy exterior and warm interior.
Notes
- Prepare the marinade ahead of time for more flavor infusion.
- Use fresh, high-quality vegetables for the best taste.
- Wrap tightly in foil to keep warm or for easy transport.
- Customize toppings and sauces based on preference or dietary needs.
