Ingredients
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 ¼ teaspoons)
- ¾ cup warm water (110°F)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- Optional: grated Parmesan cheese or red pepper flakes for extra flavor
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, garlic powder, black pepper, and oregano. Pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil.
- Mix until the dough begins to form, then knead on a floured surface for about 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Punch down the dough and divide into 12 equal pieces.
- Roll each piece into a long, thin stick (about 12 inches). Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Brush the breadsticks with olive oil and sprinkle with additional seasonings or cheese if desired.
- Bake for 12–15 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove from oven and let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- For extra flavor, sprinkle grated Parmesan or red pepper flakes on top before baking.
- Ensure the water is warm but not hot to activate the yeast properly.
- Use a sharp knife to cut uniform strips for even baking.
