- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (natural or Dutch-processed)
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp white vinegar
- 1/4 cup blue food coloring (liquid or gel)
- Frosting/glaze: 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar, 2 tbsp milk, 1 tbsp butter (melted), 1/2 tsp vanilla, blue food coloring to taste
- Edible shimmer dust (gold or pearl), pearl sprinkles, sea salt flakes for topping
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C). Grease and flour a donut pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, combine buttermilk, oil, eggs, vanilla, vinegar, and food coloring. Mix well.
- Pour wet ingredients into dry and stir until just combinedβdo not overmix.
- Fill donut cups 3/4 full. Bake for 10β12 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool in pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Whisk glaze ingredients until smooth and vibrant blue. Dip cooled donuts and let excess drip off.
- Sprinkle immediately with shimmer dust, pearl sprinkles, and a pinch of sea salt.
Notes
- For deeper blue color, use gel food coloring instead of liquid.
- Donuts are best fresh but keep well in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
- For a vegan version, substitute flax eggs, dairy-free butter, and plant-based milk + vinegar for buttermilk.
