Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine ground almonds and powdered sugar; mix well.
- Whip egg whites with an electric mixer until foamy, gradually adding granulated sugar and salt until stiff peaks form.
- Gently fold the whipped egg whites into the almond mixture and add food coloring if desired.
- Pipe small circles onto a parchment-lined tray and let sit for 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C) and bake for 15-20 minutes until firm.
Notes
- Store macarons in an airtight container for up to 3 days at room temperature or up to a week in the refrigerator.
- Allow macarons to rest in the fridge for 24 hours before serving to enhance the flavors.
- Customize flavors by using different extracts like almond or mint.
