Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups of granulated sugar
- ¾ cup of light corn syrup
- ¾ cup of water
- 1 teaspoon of blue food coloring
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla or peppermint flavoring
- Wooden skewers or sticks
- Optional: edible glitter (silver or gold)
Instructions
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and soak the skewers in water to help crystals adhere.
- Combine sugar, corn syrup, and water in a heavy saucepan. Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves, then bring to a boil without stirring until mixture reaches 300°F (hard crack stage).
- Remove from heat and quickly stir in blue food coloring and flavoring.
- Pour the hot syrup into a glass jar or mold. Rest skewers across the top so they dangle into the syrup without touching the bottom.
- Allow the syrup to cool slightly, then leave it undisturbed at room temperature for 5-7 days to grow crystals.
- Once crystals reach desired size, carefully remove the skewers. Break crystals if needed and enjoy your mystical blue rock candy!
Notes
- Use a candy thermometer for accurate temperature testing.
- Crystals grow best in a stable, undisturbed environment.
- Can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature, with silica gel to prevent moisture.
- Add edible glitter for extra sparkle and visual appeal.
