Ingredients
- Ale (dark or stout)
- Flour (all-purpose or bread flour)
- Yeast
- Sugar
- Salt
Instructions
- Prepare the yeast mixture by dissolving sugar in warm ale and sprinkling yeast over it. Let it sit until foamy.
- Mix the flour and salt into the yeast mixture until a shaggy dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1-1.5 hours until doubled.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Shape the dough into a loaf and place it in a greased pan. Let it rest for 15-20 minutes.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden and the internal temperature reaches 200°F (93°C).
- Let cool before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Use quality ale for the best flavor.
- Avoid over-kneading to prevent a tough loaf.
- Ensure the dough rises properly for an airy texture.
- Use a thermometer to check for doneness.
