Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and cocoa powder.
- Add sugar, eggs, oil, and vanilla, mix until smooth.
- Gradually add buttermilk and mix well. Stir in black food coloring until evenly dark.
- Carefully add boiling water and mix on low speed until incorporated. Batter will be thin.
- Pour batter evenly into prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let cakes cool completely on wire racks before frosting.
