Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans, then set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, dark cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, beat the eggs. Add the milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract; mix until smooth.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients into the dry mixture, stirring continuously. Slowly pour in the boiling water, stirring gently until combined.
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool for 10 minutes in pans, then transfer to a wire rack.
- Heat heavy cream until just boiling, then pour over chopped dark chocolate. Let sit for 5 minutes, then stir until smooth to make ganache.
- Spread ganache between the cooled layers, then cover the entire cake with remaining ganache. Decorate with metallic dust or gold leaf to resemble a villain’s fortress.
