Ingredients
Scale
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 vibrant red food coloring gel
- Dark chocolate frosting (prepared or homemade)
- Red and black edible decorations or vampire-themed toppers
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder.
- In a separate bowl, combine sugar, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with buttermilk, mixing until well combined.
- Add the red food coloring gel gradually, mixing until you achieve the desired vibrant red hue.
- Divide the batter evenly among the cupcake liners, filling about 2/3 full.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool completely on a wire rack.
- Frost the cooled cupcakes with dark chocolate frosting. Decorate with red and black edible toppers or vampire-themed decorations to enhance the Gothic vampire theme.
Notes
- The vibrant red color can be intensified by adding more food coloring gel; adjust accordingly.
- If making vegan, substitute eggs with flaxseed or chia seed eggs and use plant-based milk and frosting options.
- Store cupcakes in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or in the refrigerator for up to a week. Freeze for longer storage.
