Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour your cake pans or line with parchment paper.
- Whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.
- Add eggs, buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla. Beat until smooth and combined.
- Gradually add hot water or coffee, mixing continuously until the batter is thin and smooth.
- Divide batter evenly into prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let cakes cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
- Prepare the frosting by beating softened butter until creamy, then incorporating cocoa powder.
- Alternate adding powdered sugar and milk, beating on low until fluffy. Stir in vanilla.
- Spread frosting between the cake layers, then cover the entire cake generously. Decorate as desired.
