- 1 large egg
- Vegetable oil for frying
Cherry Bomb Topping:
- 1 cup cherry preserves or cherry jam
- 1/2 teaspoon red food coloring (optional)
- Fresh cherries for garnish (optional)
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine water, sugar, salt, and vegetable oil. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
- Remove from heat and add the flour all at once, stirring vigorously until dough forms.
- Allow to cool slightly, then beat in the egg until smooth and glossy.
- Transfer dough to a piping bag fitted with a star-shaped nozzle.
- Heat vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C).
- Squeeze dough into hot oil, cutting into 4-6 inch pieces. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Cherry Bomb Topping:
- Warm cherry preserves in a small saucepan until runny.
- Add red food coloring if desired.
- Dip hot churros into cherry preserves or spread on top.

Notes
- Ensure frying oil is at 375°F for crispy churros.
- Churros are best fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for 2 days.
- Reheat in oven at 350°F for 5-7 minutes to regain crispiness.
- For a healthier twist, bake instead of frying or use natural sweeteners.
