Instructions

  1. Prepare the apples by washing and peeling 4 cups of firm apples.
  2. Combine the sliced apples with sugar, lemon juice, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt in a bowl and toss gently.
  3. Roll out the pie crust, fitting it into a 9-inch pie pan.
  4. Pour the apple filling into the crust, dot with butter, cover with the second crust, seal, and brush with egg wash.
  5. Bake at 425°F (220°C) for 15 minutes, then reduce to 350°F (175°C) and bake for an additional 30-35 minutes until golden brown.
