Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups of thinly sliced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work best)
- ¾ cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, cubed
- 1 package of store-bought pie crusts (or homemade if you prefer)
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Prepare the apples by washing and peeling 4 cups of firm apples.
- Combine the sliced apples with sugar, lemon juice, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt in a bowl and toss gently.
- Roll out the pie crust, fitting it into a 9-inch pie pan.
- Pour the apple filling into the crust, dot with butter, cover with the second crust, seal, and brush with egg wash.
- Bake at 425°F (220°C) for 15 minutes, then reduce to 350°F (175°C) and bake for an additional 30-35 minutes until golden brown.
Notes
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3-4 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
- Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or drizzle with caramel for extra flavor.
- Use tart apples for better flavor balance.
