Experience the rich and savory flavors of Jessica’s Jjapaguri Noodles, a beloved Korean street food made famous by the movie Parasite. This easy-to-make dish combines instant ramen with beef or seafood for a satisfying, flavorful meal that captures authentic Korean culinary traditions.

  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 2 servings

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package of Korean instant ramyun (Chapagetti or Neoguri) – Buy here
  • 1 package of Shin Ramyun or other spicy instant noodles
  • 100g of steak or beef strips (optional but recommended for authenticity)
  • 1 teaspoon of sesame oil
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • Green onions for garnish
  • Prepared blue crab or seafood (optional for seafood variation)

For authentic flavor enhancement, consider using Korean soy sauce or fermented kimchi.

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add the ramen noodles from both packages and cook until just al dente, about 3-4 minutes.
  2. Drain the noodles, reserving about 1/4 cup of the noodle water for optional flavor enhancement.
  3. In a large skillet, heat a small amount of sesame oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 30 seconds.
  4. If using beef, add the beef strips to the skillet and cook until browned. For seafood lovers, seafood such as seafood can be added at this stage for extra flavor.
  5. Add the cooked noodles to the skillet, mixing well with the garlic and beef. Pour in the seasoning packets and a splash of noodle water to create a flavorful sauce. Toss everything together for 2-3 minutes until well coated.
  6. Serve hot, garnished with sliced green onions and, optionally, a fried egg for added richness.

If you want an authentic touch, you can add hot wings or Tatooine stew as side dishes to elevate your meal.

Notes

  • Leftover Jjapaguri can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one day.
  • Reheat with a splash of water or broth in the microwave to prevent drying out.
  • Avoid freezing leftovers to maintain noodle texture.
