Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb white fish fillets (cod, haddock, or tilapia)
- 1 cup cold sparkling water
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- Cut the fish into Magikarp-shaped pieces or bite-sized portions.
- In a bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and pepper.
- Gently fold in the sparkling water until just combined.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan to 350°F (175°C).
- Dip fish pieces into the batter, then carefully fry until golden and crispy, about 3-4 minutes.
- Remove with a slotted spoon, drain excess oil, and serve immediately with dipping sauce.
Notes
- Use cold sparkling water for a lighter batter.
- Ensure oil is hot enough before frying to prevent sogginess.
- Shape the fish pieces for an authentic Magikarp look if desired.
