Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and diced
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 2 tablespoons ice water
  • 1 cup vanilla pastry cream
  • Food coloring (pink, red)
  • Edible roses or rose-shaped candies

Instructions

  1. Mix flour and powdered sugar in a bowl. Cut in butter until crumbly. Add egg yolk and ice water, then knead into dough. Chill for 30 minutes.
  2. Roll out dough and fit into tart pan. Prick the bottom with a fork and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 15 minutes until golden. Cool completely.
  3. Fill the cooled tart shell with vanilla pastry cream, color as desired with food coloring, and smooth top.
  4. Decorate with edible roses or rose candies, and gently pipe floral details with tinted frosting for a magical effect.
