- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- ¼ tsp ground ginger
- ⅓ cup unsalted butter, softened
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- ½ cup strong brewed coffee, cooled
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp orange zest
- ¼ cup brown sugar, packed
- ½ tsp cinnamon (for swirl)
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
- In a bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, 1 tsp cinnamon, and ginger.
- In another bowl, beat butter and granulated sugar until fluffy. Add egg, coffee, vanilla, and orange zest; mix well.
- Gradually fold in dry ingredients until just combined.
- Combine brown sugar and ½ tsp cinnamon for the swirl. Sprinkle half over the batter, swirl gently with a knife, then add remaining batter and top with remaining cinnamon sugar.
- Bake 55–60 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes in pan, then transfer to a rack.
- Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
- For a stronger coffee flavor, use espresso powder (1 tsp) in the batter.
- Store in an airtight container up to 3 days—or freeze sliced for up to 1 month.
- Pair with English Breakfast tea or black coffee for full Holmesian effect.
