- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a muffin tin or cake mold.
- In a bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg and vanilla extract, mix well.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour and baking powder.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with milk, beginning and ending with flour.
- Pour batter into prepared molds and bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let cool, then dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
- You can add a hint of lemon zest for extra flavor.
- Serve with a side of clotted cream or jam for an authentic Victorian teatime.
