Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup light corn syrup
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- Food coloring (optional, for themed colors)
Instructions
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly grease.
- FCombine sugar, corn syrup, and water in a saucepan. Heat over medium-high, stirring until sugar dissolves.
- Once boiling, stop stirring; cook until golden amber (about 3–5 minutes), reaching 300°F (hard-crack stage).
- Remove from heat. Quickly stir in baking soda (mixture will foam and expand).
- Pour or drop onto prepared sheet, then quickly imprint desired shape (e.g., circle, triangle, star) using a mold or cookie cutter while still warm.
- Let cool completely (5–10 mins), then break into pieces.
Notes
- Use a candy thermometer for accuracy—overheating causes bitterness.
- Work quickly after adding baking soda—it sets fast!
- For squid game authenticity, etch simple shapes by pressing lightly into hot candy before it fully sets.
