Ingredients
Scale
- 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Food coloring: red, green, black, and white
- Edible markers or black icing for details
Instructions
- Prepare the dough: In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. In a separate large bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar until creamy. Add the egg and vanilla extract, and mix well. Gradually add the dry ingredients until a dough forms. Chill the dough in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
- Shape the cookies: Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about ¼ inch thickness. Use cookie cutters or freehand shapes to create the doll’s face and body, or simple round shapes for the cookies.
- Bake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes until lightly golden. Let cool completely.
- Decorate: Use food coloring to tint the icing or royal icing for the doll’s face in red, green, and white. Apply details with edible markers or black icing, mimicking the doll’s facial features and the iconic red and green lights.
Notes
- Keep decorated cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
- Store decorated cookies in a single layer or separated with parchment paper to prevent smudging.
- For longer storage, freeze cookies well wrapped in plastic wrap and in an airtight container.
