Ingredients
Scale
- 1½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
- ⅓ cup unsalted butter, softened
- ¾ cup packed brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- ½ cup sour cream
- ½ tsp pure vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp milk
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
- In a bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- In another bowl, beat butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg, then sour cream and vanilla. Mix well.
- Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk to butter mixture, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.
- Spoon half the batter into the pan. Sprinkle with half the streusel (see below), then top with remaining batter and streusel.
- Bake 45–55 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes in pan before removing.
Notes
- For best flavor, use room-temperature ingredients.
- Streusel: Mix ¼ cup flour, ¼ cup brown sugar, 2 tbsp cold butter (cut into peas), and ½ tsp cinnamon until crumbly.
- Dust with powdered sugar before serving if desired — just like Hopper’s rare “treat yourself” moments.
