- 1 lb ziti pasta
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 lb ground beef or plant-based meat alternative
- 1 small onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Fresh basil or parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Cook the ziti pasta in salted boiling water until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add diced onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Stir in ground beef or plant-based meat, cook until browned. Season with salt, pepper, oregano, and basil.
- Pour in crushed tomatoes and add red pepper flakes. Simmer for 10-15 minutes to develop flavors.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Mix cooked pasta with the sauce in a large bowl.
- Transfer mixture to a greased baking dish and top with shredded mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses.
- Bake uncovered for 20-25 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
- Garnish with fresh basil or parsley before serving.
