Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup light corn syrup
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 tsp mint extract
- 1/4 tsp green food coloring (liquid or gel)
- 1/4 tsp white food coloring
- Edible gold or silver dust (optional for shimmer)
Instructions
- Line two baking sheets with silicone mats or lightly grease with oil.
- Combine sugar, corn syrup, and water in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Stir until sugar dissolves, then insert a candy thermometer.
- Bring to a boil without stirring until it reaches 300°F (hard-crack stage), about 10–12 minutes.
- Remove from heat. Divide into two bowls. Stir mint extract and green food coloring into one; white coloring into the other.
- Quickly pour both colors into alternating thin streams over the prepared sheet, twisting lightly to create a swirl pattern.
- Cool completely, then break into jagged ‘Kryptonite’ shards. Optional: dust lightly with edible glitter.
Notes
- Candy thermometer is essential for accuracy—don’t skip this!
- Work quickly before the sugar hardens. Keep a bowl of hot water nearby to reheat spilled sugar.
- For safety, keep children away from hot sugar. Store in an airtight container away from humidity.
