- 1 large fresh submarine bread (or hoagie roll)
- 1/2 pound sliced roast beef or turkey
- 4 slices of Swiss cheese
- 4 slices of cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded lettuce
- 1 ripe tomato, sliced
- 1/2 red onion, sliced thin
- Pickles (optional)
- Honey mustard or your favorite hero sandwich spread
- Mayonnaise (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Olive oil for toast
Instructions
- Prepare the bread: Slice the large submarine bread lengthwise. Lightly brush the inside with olive oil and toast in the oven at 375°F (190°C) for about 5 minutes until lightly crispy.
- Layer the meats and cheeses: Place the slices of roast beef or turkey evenly along the bottom half of the bread. Add Swiss and cheddar cheese slices on top of the meats.
- Add fresh vegetables: Layer shredded lettuce, sliced tomatoes, red onion, and pickles if desired. Season with salt and pepper to enhance flavors.
- Spread condiments: Apply honey mustard and mayonnaise on the inside of the top half of the bread.
- Assemble the sandwich: Carefully close the bread, pressing gently to hold all ingredients together. Wrap in foil and refrigerate for 15 minutes for extra stability if desired.
- Serve: Slice into portions and enjoy immediately for maximum freshness and flavor.
