Ingredients
Scale
- 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Food coloring: red, blue, black, and yellow
- Royal icing or colored glaze for decoration
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing well.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, stirring until a dough forms. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill for 30 minutes.
- Roll out the chilled dough on a lightly floured surface to about ¼ inch thickness.
- Use a Superman shield-shaped cookie cutter or a round cutter with an S emblem stencil to cut out cookies.
- Place the cookies onto prepared baking sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown. Cool completely before decorating.
- Prepare royal icing or colored glaze in red, blue, yellow, and black.
- Decorate the cookies with piping bags and fine tips, starting with the blue background, then red accents, and finally the yellow and black S emblem for an authentic look.
Notes
- For best results, chill the dough sufficiently before baking.
- Use high-quality food coloring for vibrant, even colors.
- Decorate cookies once fully cooled to prevent smudging.
- Store decorated cookies in an airtight container for up to a week.
